Alianza is a magnet school and a key element in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District's Desegregation Plan. Alianza serves students who reside in the Rodriguez Street area. This area is primarily low income and 98% Latino. For the purposes of desegregation, Alianza is also open to the voluntary enrollment of Anglo pupils from four primarily Anglo, middle class, north district area schools and to pupils of private schools. Alianza School has a desegregation goal of maintaining a magnet population of Anglo students of 30%. Presently this percentage is 15%. In the 1992-93 school year, Alianza began implementing a school-wide two-way immersion in Spanish program. All Kindergarten classes adopted the immersion program in that year, and we have added one grade level per year since then, so that all K through 2nd grade classes are now participating. In 1995, we received a Title VII grant to support the immersion program.
