WRITING: Conventions

 

Sentence Structure:

1.1:  Use complete sentences when speaking (school-wide Ð all the time!).

Spelling:

1.2:  Spell independently by using pre-phonetic knowledge sounds of the alphabet, and knowledge of letter names.

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Respond with words or phrases when possible.

Spelling:

(1.2) Use capital letters when writing own name.

 

Kindergarten Ð Early Intermediate Level

Sentence Structure:

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Respond with words or phrases.

Spelling:

(1.2) Use capital letters to begin sentences and proper nouns.

Use period or question mark at the end of a sentence.

 

Kindergarten Ð Intermediate Level

(1.1) Use standard word order in compound/complex sentences but may have some inconsistent grammatical forms.

Spelling:

(1.2) Produce independent writing that may include some inconsistent use of capitalization, periods, and correct spelling.

(1.1) Use standard word order but may have some inconsistent grammatical forms (e.g., subject/verb agreement).

Spelling:

(1.2) Produce independent writing that may include some inconsistent use of capitalization, periods, and correct spelling.

 

Kindergarten Ð Advanced Level

Sentence Structure:

(1.1) Use complete sentences and correct word order.

Use correct parts of speech, including correct subject/verb agreement.

Spelling:

(1.2) Produce writing that demonstrates a command of the conventions of standard English.
