Strategies:

1.1:  Understand and follow one-and two-step directions.

1.2:  Speak audibly in complete sentences. 

Applications:

2.1:  Describe people, places, things, location and actions.

2.2:  Recite short poems, rhymes and songs.

 

 

ELD Standards                              Kindergarten - Beginning Level

Listening & Speaking

 

Strategies:

(1.1) Respond to simple directions and questions using physical actions and other means of non-verbal communications (e.g., matching objects, pointing to an answer, drawing pictures).

(1.2) Begin to speak with few words or sentences, using some English phonemes and rudimentary English grammatical forms (e.g., single words or phrases).

Applications:

(2.1) Answer simple questions with one- or two- word responses.

(2.2) RECOMMENDED:  Respond chorally in classroom songs, poems and chants.

 

Kindergarten Ð Early Intermediate Level

 

Listening & Speaking

 

Strategies:

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Respond to 2-step directions and questions using physical actions or single words or phrases.

(1.2) Begin to be understood when speaking, but may have some inconsistent use of standard English grammatical forms and sounds (e.g. plurals, simple past tense, pronouns he/she).

Applications:

(2.1) Ask and answer questions using phrases or simple sentences.

(2.2) RECOMMENDED:  Recite/sing classroom songs, poems and chants in a small group.

 

Kindergarten Ð Intermediate Level

Strategies:

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Respond to 3-step directions and questions using phrases or simple sentences. 

(1.2) Be understood when speaking, using consistent standard English grammatical forms and sounds; however, some rules may not be in evidence (e.g., third person singular, male and female pronouns).

Applications:

(2.1) Ask and answer instructional questions using simple sentences.

(2.2) RECOMMENDED:  Recite/sing classroom songs, poems and chants in pairs.

 


Kindergarten Ð Early Advanced Level

 

Listening & Speaking

 

Strategies:

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Respond to 3+-step directions and questions using simple sentences. 

(1.2) Be understood when speaking, using consistent standard English grammatical forms and sounds, intonation, pitch, and modulation, but may have random errors.

Applications:

(2.1) Ask and answer instructional questions with more extensive supporting elements (e.g., ÒWhat part of the story was most important?Ó).

(2.2) RECOMMENDED:  Recite classroom songs, poems and chants with minimal prompting.

 

Kindergarten Ð Advanced Level

 

Listening & Speaking

Strategies:

(1.1) Listen attentively to stories/information on new topics and identify orally and in writing key details and concepts.

(1.2) Speak clearly and comprehensibly using standard English grammatical forms, sounds, intonation, pitch, and modulation.

Applications:

(2.1) Demonstrate understanding of idiomatic expressions by responding to and using such expressions appropriately.

(2.2) RECOMMENDED:  Recite classroom  songs, poems and chants.
