WRITING: Strategies

(40% of CST in Writing)

1.1:  Create a single paragraph with topic sentence and supporting detail.

1.2:  Write legibly in cursive.

1.3:  Understand the structure of reference materials: dictionary, newspaper, and encyclopedia.

1.4:  Revise drafts to improve the logic of ideas.

 

ELD Standards                             Grade 3 Ð Beginning Level

WRITING: Strategies

(40% of CST in Writing)

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  During language experience group write, copy sentences from model and write words for cloze activity.

(1.2) Write the English alphabet legibly.

(1.3) RECOMMENDED:  Sequence letters in alphabetic order.

(1.4) RECOMMENDED:  Copy language experience group write in correct sequence.

 

Grade 3 Ð Early Intermediate Level

WRITING: Strategies

(40% of CST in Writing)

(1.1) Follow a model given by a teacher to independently write short paragraphs of at least four sentences. 

RECOMMENDED:  Given samples of topic sentences, be able to choose one and provide four sentences of supporting detail to create single paragraph. Grammar may be inconsistent.

(1.2) RECOMMENDED:  Write words from units of study legibly.

(1.3) RECOMMENDED:  Sequence words in alphabetic order, using first letter of word.

(1.4) Produce independent writing that is understood when read, but may include inconsistent use of standard grammatical forms.

 

Grade 3 Ð Intermediate Level

(40% of CST in Writing)

 

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Following model provided by teacher, write a paragraph with topic sentence and supporting details with mostly standard grammatical forms.

(1.2) RECOMMENDED:  Write first half of alphabet in cursive.

(1.3) RECOMMENDED:  Sequence words in alphabetic order, using first 2 letters of word.

(1.4) Independently create cohesive paragraphs that develop a central idea with consistent use of standard English grammatical forms (Some rules may not be in evidence.).

Grade 3 Ð Early Advanced Level

 

WRITING: Strategies

(40% of CST in Writing)

(1.1) RECOMMENDED:  Independently write a paragraph with topic sentence with supporting details and consistent use of standard grammatical forms.

(1.2) RECOMMENDED:  Write whole alphabet in cursive.

(1.3) RECOMMENDED:  Find words in dictionary or encyclopedia.

(1.4) Arrange compositions according to simple organizational patterns.

Grade 3 Ð Advanced Level
